Gaya has experienced the rise ans fall of many years in Magadh Region. From the 6th Century BC to the 18th Century AD, about 2300-2400 years, Gaya has been occupying an important ;lace in the cultural history of the region. It lies between 84 degree 4 minutes to 85 degree 5 minutes east latitude and 24 degree 5 minutes to 25 degree 10 minutes longitude. The river Phalgu flows through the district of Gaya. The district has 4 sub-divisions and is divided in to 24 blocks. It is spread over the area of 4,976 sq km. The total population of the district is 34,73,428 with population density of 1006 per sq.km. and sex ratio of 938.
