Sundargarh

Two princely State of Gangapur and Bonai constitute the present district of Sundargarh, consequent upon merger of the princely States in 1948. The district is situated between 21º36’ N to 22º32’ N Latitude and 83º32’E to 85º22’E Longitude. The geographical area of the district is 9712 SqKms, the Second largest district in the State accounting for 6.23% of the total area. As per provisional census 2011, the total population of the district is 2,080,664 and population density is 214. The sex ratio of the district is 971 females per thousand males. The district is having 3 sub-divisions, 7 blocks, 264 Gram Panchayats and 4 Urban Local Bodies.
